Coming to an Outpatient Appointment
Attending an outpatient appointment at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde is a straightforward process designed to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care. Outpatient clinics operate Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding public holidays. Appointments are scheduled following a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) or specialist. The hospital offers a wide range of outpatient services, including cardiology, endocrinology, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, and more.
Upon arrival, patients should report to the main reception at Dunstan Hospital, located at 29 Hospital Street, Clyde. The facility is equipped with accessible parking, automatic doors, and wheelchair access to accommodate all visitors . If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, contact the Outpatients Department at (03) 440 4301. For specific services like chemotherapy, which is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays, appointment changes can be made by calling (03) 440 4300 and leaving a message on extension 52653 . Chemotherapy Services
Dunstan Hospital provides high-quality chemotherapy treatment close to home, reducing the need for patients in Central Otago and the Upper Clutha to travel long distances for care. Our dedicated oncology nurses deliver personalised, compassionate treatment in a safe and supportive environment, working closely with specialist teams in larger centres to ensure every patient receives the best possible care. By offering chemotherapy locally, we help patients focus on their treatment and wellbeing, surrounded by the support of family, friends, and community.
Diagnostic Imaging
Radiology
Our Radiology Service provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging for our community, including General X-Ray, CT Scans, and Ultrasound. The department is open Monday–Friday, 8.30am–5.00pm, with our skilled Medical Imaging Technologists available on-call after hours and weekends for urgent X-rays and CT scans.
We deliver publicly funded imaging, ACC work, and private imaging, working closely with our medical and nursing teams on site, as well as Health New Zealand Radiology and specialist services across the region.
Our team performs specialist CT Colonography and offers advanced ultrasound using a new, modern imaging unit.
Dunstan is fully integrated with Health New Zealand Radiology and uses Tele-Radiology for expert image reporting.

Exercise Tolerance Testing
Cardiac assessment using exercise testing to evaluate heart function and capacity.

Specialist and Nurse Practitioner clinics for patients with digestive system conditions. Some minor procedures are also undertaken on site.
Oncology
Specialist medical oncology clinics provide ongoing cancer care, treatment planning, and support.
Paediatric

Radiation Oncology

Woman’s Health Bus, Te Waka Wahine Hauora
The Woman’s Health Bus regularly comes on site to provide woman’s health procedures.
General Surgery
Specialist surgical assessments and follow-up clinics. Some minor procedures are also undertaken on site, such as sigmoidoscopies.
Gynaecology
Specialist care for women’s health needs, including minor procedures.
Mole Map
Mole Map provide regular private clinics at Dunstan Hospital.

Additional Services
Mobile Surgical Bus
The mobile Surgical Services Bus visits approximately nine times per year, providing a range of day surgery procedures locally.
Chemotherapy
Specialist chemotherapy nurses deliver treatments on-site 4 days per week (Tuesday–Friday), reducing the need for travel to larger centers. We also provide a broad range of other infusions for both cancer and non-cancer conditions in this unit.
BreastScreen Aotearoa
The mobile Breast Screening Bus is on site each year to provide breast screening mammograms for the early detection of breast cancer.

      All outpatient appointments require a referral from your GP to the specialist service, except for Mole Map which can be by self-referral. Referrals are prioritised before appointments are confirmed.
