Visitor Information

Everything you need to know when visiting Dunstan Hospital — from visiting hours and contact details to WiFi, café services, and facilities for families.

  • Visiting hours are 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm daily. Next-of-kin may visit at any time. Please speak with your nurse if you need flexibility, as these hours can be adjusted when required.

  • Free WiFi is available throughout the hospital for patients and visitors. Simply select SDHB-PATIENT-WIFI, accept the terms and conditions, and you’ll be connected. No password is required.

  • The Quail Café is located in the Main Atrium and open Monday to Friday, 9 am – 3 pm. Free tea and coffee are also available from the patient lounge at the end of Vincent Ward.

  • If a parent is staying overnight with their child, meal arrangements can usually be made. Please speak with ward staff to organise this.

  • Visitors are welcome to bring flowers, but please avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements, as these can cause allergic reactions for some patients and staff.

  • A small playground is available beside the visitor car park for children. Please note this area may sometimes be used during the week by the Child Development Service for assessments.

  • Mobile phones may be used in the ward, though staff may ask for limited use in certain situations. A free local-call phone is also available in the ward entrance.

Your Rights

Understanding Your Rights as a Patient

At Dunstan Hospital, all patients are protected by the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights, which ensures you are treated with respect, dignity, and fairness, and have the right to make informed choices about your care.

If you feel they are not being met to your satisfaction, you can discuss this with the staff caring for you, or if you would like to have independent support, you can contact Health and Disability Consumer Advocacy service on 0800 555 050 or email advocacy@advocacy.org.nz. Nourishment

Quail Cafe

The Quail Cafe located in the main atrium and is open from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Free tea and coffee is also available from the patient lounge located at the end of the Vincent Ward.

Directions and Parking

Dunstan Hospital is located near the township of Clyde at the entrance to the Cromwell Gorge, approximately 199 km northwest of Dunedin (about a 2.5-hour drive).

Parking Information

On-site Parking: Free public parking is available on the hospital grounds.
Disabled Parking: Designated accessible parking spaces are located close to hospital entrances for ease of access.

After Hours GP Service Access

If attending the After Hours GP Service (6:00 PM – 8:00 AM), please follow the red signs to the rear of the hospital. Do not enter via the Vincent Ward entrance.
