Dunstan Hospital Services
Your Rural Hospital at the Heart of Central Otago
The Vincent Ward comprises 24 acute care beds, including a two bed High Dependency Unit. Our Trained Rural Hospital Doctors can deliver a broad range of services including general medicine, post surgical rehabilitation, paediatric care, and palliative care and utilise remote support from specialists in Dunedin if required. Currently, 93% of medical bed demand in the region is already met by Dunstan and Lakes District Hospitals. Unless a condition requires an operation, intensive care, or specialist procedure (eg cardiac angiogram/catheterisation) the team are highly likely to be able to manage your health care entirely at Dunstan Hospital.
Beyond the hospital walls, Dunstan’s reach extends across Central Otago and the Upper Clutha, into homes, farms, aged care facilities, and rural towns. District nursing, rehabilitation, allied health, maternity, palliative care, and meals on wheels are just some of the services that ensure patients and whānau are supported at every stage of their healthcare journey. From urgent hospital treatment to everyday wellbeing, Dunstan delivers world-class, patient-centred care woven into the fabric of our community.

    Lets Do Something Extraordinary
The Dunstan Hospital Foundation
The Dunstan Hospital Foundation exists to ensure everyone in Central Otago and the Upper Clutha has access to quality healthcare close to home. While government funding covers day-to-day services, it doesn’t stretch to future-proofing our hospital. That’s where the foundation comes in, working alongside Central Otago Health Services to fund vital projects, improvements, and services our community deserves.
