Health Social Worker - Dunstan Hospital

Permanent up to 0.6FTE

Central Otago Health Services Limited is seeking a New Zealand Registered Social Worker to join our Allied Health team based at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team while making a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities across Central Otago.

We are looking for an experienced and autonomous Health Social Worker with strong clinical and both inpatient and community-based practice skills to meet the diverse needs of our growing rural population. This role offers a varied and rewarding caseload across both inpatient and community settings, working with people of all ages and supporting them through a wide range of health, social, and wellbeing challenges.

The successful candidate will preferably have health experience, though other experience will be considered, and will demonstrate excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills. You will be confident working alongside individuals, whānau, caregivers, and community networks to support positive outcomes and ensure a seamless transition between hospital and community services. A commitment to person-centred practice, cultural responsiveness, and collaborative care is essential.

We are seeking someone who thrives in a rural interdisciplinary environment, values teamwork, and enjoys the diversity that rural practice provides. You will be able to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and contribute positively to the wider Allied Health team. Strong professional judgement, sound assessment skills, and the ability to navigate complex health and social situations are key attributes for success in this role.

At Dunstan Hospital, we are committed to supporting our people to grow and succeed. We take pride in fostering a supportive environment that encourages professional development, clinical excellence, and ongoing learning while enabling staff to enjoy the exceptional lifestyle that Central Otago offers.

Applicants must hold current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board, have a current practising certificate, and have New Zealand residency or hold a valid New Zealand work visa.
