Ward Administrator - Inpatient Ward

Permanent 0.5FTE Position

Are you an organised, people focused administrator who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys making a real difference?

Dunstan Hospital is looking for a dynamic and professional Ward Administrator to support our inpatient ward. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our hospital, connecting patients, whānau, clinicians, and services to ensure everything runs smoothly.

About us

Dunstan Hospital is a community-owned rural hospital providing high-quality care close to home for people across Central Otago and the Upper Clutha. Our work is grounded in kindness, excellence, trust and connection, reflecting our commitment to our people, our place, and our patients.

This is a place where relationships matter, teamwork is essential, and every role contributes to better outcomes for our community.

The role

Working within our busy inpatient ward, you will provide high quality administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the service.

This is a varied and fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will:

  • Provide frontline reception and telephone support

  • Maintain accurate patient records and filing systems

  • Support clinical staff with timely and efficient administration

  • Identify improvements to processes and workflows

  • Help ensure continuity of service through flexible cover when required

This role requires someone who can think ahead, stay organised under pressure, and bring energy and positivity to the team.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable, and genuinely enjoys working with people. You will bring:

  • Proven experience in a busy administrative role (minimum 2 years).  Experience working in health would be an advantage but not essential.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with patients, whānau and staff

  • Confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital systems

  • A proactive, solution-focused approach

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • A high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality

Most importantly, you will be friendly, flexible, and resilient, with the ability to remain calm and effective in a busy clinical environment.

What we offer

  • A supportive, team-focused working environment

  • The opportunity to work in a unique rural hospital setting

  • Competitive remuneration (pro rata). The starting salary range for this role is $67-70k per annum pro rata

Working hours

This role is 40 hours per fortnight, working a rotating roster of morning and afternoon shifts:

  • Morning: 7.00am – 3.30pm

  • Afternoon: 3.15pm – 11.45pm

Public Holidays are part of the roster and weekend cover is required from time to time for planned and unplanned leave, with penal rates applying.

Why Dunstan Hospital?

Living and working here gives you the chance to build meaningful relationships, enjoy a slower-paced rural lifestyle, and be central to delivering healthcare that truly impacts the local population.
